Ritma Green is committed to facilitate sustainable coffee production by joining The Sustainable Coffee Challenge (sustaincoffee.org) which is a collaborative effort of companies, governments, NGOs, research institutions and others working to transition to a fully sustainable coffee sector. Nearly every major coffee-producing region of the world is under stress. Warming temperatures, drought and changing weather patterns are affecting coffee production and the livelihoods of coffee farmers. By uniting all coffee stakeholders, the challenge can tackle the complex issues facing coffee and ensure the long-term supply since sustaining coffee in light of climate variability, aging trees and farmers, and volatile markets will require new collaborations that effectively scale-up efforts.  .

Collective action networks promoted by the challenge are as follows:

Coffee and forest monitoring + mapping

Identifying innovative ways to map and monitor the extent of coffee and forests and how they are changing over time.

Scaling up sustainable coffee sourcing

Sharing experiences and lessons to help companies establish and achieve sourcing commitments; exploring metrics and measurements across schemes to align and recognize shared progress.

Improved labor conditions and supply

Ensuring a continued supply of labor and promoting good labor conditions across coffee-producing countries.

Coffee farm renovation and rehabilitation

Meeting the global need to rejuvenate coffee lands, while applying best practices that restore productivity and conserve nature via ongoing R&R efforts.

As a social enterprise working with small-scale producers, Ritma Green  needs a place to publicly state its commitments to sustainability and report on progress over time. By shedding light on commitments made by stakeholders throughout the sector, The challenge will assist Ritma Green to better leverage them to form new partnerships and inspire others to act. While the coffee sector has invested heavily in sustainability for decades, the challenge recognizes that the complex issues facing the sector require a wide range of solutions and commitments. Transparency of sustainability commitments means stating them in a shared space and reporting on progress.
